No 5 - Lee Enfield No.5 Mk 1
Commonly called "The Jungle Carbine, this model was first produced in 1944 and saw service in the latter stages of World War 2 through to the Korean War and Malayan Emergency. This particular rifle carries no completion proof or view marks.
This would indicate that the components have been removed, i.e. stolen from the production line and the weapon has been assembled outside the factory.
This is exceedingly rare, but not unheard of.
The Rifle No. 5 Mk I, was a derivative of the British Lee–Enfield No. 4 Mk I, designed in response to a requirement for a shorter, lighter, rifle for airborne forces in Europe.
